The Trash Pandas and Space Cowboys split their season series at one game each on Monday on Field 2 at Sky Hill Park, with one quick game (the Vibes/Marlins game was only about half done when it was finished) and one long one (the Vibes/Marlins were into Game 3 when it was done).
Game one was an absolute pitcher’s duel between DaVinci and Sayles Guy, with Sayles only allowing three hits and two walks, but making one costly mistake–to DaVinci–that gave the Cowboys a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Meanwhile DaVinci was painting his own masterpiece on the mound–striking out enough batters to fill the table at The Last Supper–and ending up with a perfect game.
Game 2 was about as opposite as you could imagine–with the Cowboys plating three in the first off Wiffle Jesus, while the Pandas responded with five of their own off Pollock, including a 2-run dong by Toonces and a 3-run shot by WJ, who added a second 3-run dong in the second inning. Pollock settled in after the teams traded runs in the third, and the Cowboys picked up two more in the 4th, making it 9-6 heading into the final inning.
Cowboys put together a rally in the top of the sixth to tie it up, and the Panda bats stayed dormant, sending the game to extra innings. Memory gets a bit fuzzy here without the score sheets, but Wiffle Jesus struggled early in the 7th, pulling himself in favor of grizzled vet (and terrible pitcher) Toonces, who promptly gave up four runs (couple of them inherited, though). Heading into the bottom of the seventh down 13-9, Kadishak walked to join Toonces on the basepaths (due to the stupid runner on second rule), and Wiffle Jesus smashed his third 3-run dong of the night. Struggling all night long at the plate adjusting from baseball to wiffleball, Sayles Guy switched bats and finally launched a solo blast to tie it back up.
After trading zeros in the 8th, Toonces worked out of a jam in the top of the ninth before trudging back out to start his third straight inning as the ghost runner–and after a Kadishak walk, Wiffle Jesus walked it off with his fourth 3-run dong of the night!
Not 100% sure, but might be the first walk-off in Trash Pandas history. And I’m going out on a limb to say it’s the first 12-RBI game in franchise history as well.
Pandas are back at Sky Hill on Thursday to take on the Lugnuts, while Space Cowboys also return to Sky Hill to take on the Bears in possibly the most fun night of wiffles of the year!
