The Trash Pandas took their winning streak to three games Thursday night in Eagan, taking down the Lugnuts 9-6 in game one & 12-5 in game 2.
Game 1 started rough for the Pandas, with a quick single from Quicksand followed by a Blank Space dong to go down 0-2 early. After another single from J Fax, starting pitcher Reroute settled in by striking out Twizzler, getting Quicksand to fly out, and striking out Blank Space to end the inning.
Trash Pandas took the lead in the bottom of the inning after a solo dong by Wiffle Jesus and a two-run dong by Toonces, but a solo Quicksand dong tied it back up in the second. After trading a couple of zeros, the Pandas took the lead for good in the bottom of the third with some aggressive baserunning from Kadishak and a CP dong. Much needed insurance runs were added in the fourth (Sayles Guy dong) and fifth (Toonces two-run dong), as Blank Space crushed his second dong of the game in the top of the sixth, a three run blast with two outs that made the score 9-6. With the bullpen warming up, Reroute was able to close out his first complete game & first win of the season.
Pandas wasted no time in Game 2, jumping out to quick three run lead in the first with a two-run dong from Wiffle Jesus, followed by a small-ball run scoring as the inning ended. After Twizzler walked herself in on the fourth walk of the inning to score the first Nuts run in the bottom of the first, the Pandas put the lead back to three with a solo dong by Wiffle Jesus in the second–his seventh HR in three games–before the game slowed down a bit.
Back-to-back-to-back dongs from CP, Sayles Guy & Toonces expanded the lead to six in the top of the fourth, and Kadishak took a no-hitter into the bottom of the fourth, until Quicksand lashed a single to break it up the bid.
Two small ball runs in the fifth inning, followed by a 3-run CP dong in the sixth expanded the lead to 12-1, although the Lugnuts again made the bottom of the sixth interesting, plating four runs on a Blank Space dong and some aggressive baserunning by J Fax & Quicksand.
A planned Game 3 fizzled out due to Hoover’s work schedule preventing him from being able to attend last minute, combined with some rain starting to fall in Eagan–but both teams agreed that it was a great night at the rink, especially with Franklin not being there to ruin the mood.
Pandas & Nuts both get a week off (again) next week, before the Nuts face the Vibes on 7/24 and the Pandas play the RoughRiders on 7/27.
